Flags for Hole in One or Two - The Price is Right

The Price is Right is a trans-generational, trans-demographic show that any American of any colour, creed, or capacity can enjoy.   Everyone shops!  Gen X, Baby Boomers, Gen Y, Millennials, and the Greatest Generation have at one time or another put their 2 cents in and on this show that gave us a double dose of commercial fun.  The timeless theme and sparkly colours have given this show a long life, that has prospered.

One of the most popular flags that has flown in the face of the public since 1972 are the unique golf flags found on the Price is Right.  This game is called Hole in One... or Two, and special flags mark the putting point.  Basically the person playing this game has to put in increasing price several house hold items.  The more accurate the order, the closer to the hole a person gets to putt.  Likewise the player gets two chances to putt.

The vexilloids in this game are made of either plastic or metal.  The price of the product is hidden under a sheath, and revealed after the prices are placed.  In the photo here the person correctly put the products in order and was able to putt at the line closest to the hole.  She received  a $500 dollar bonus, as indicated the golden bonus $500 flag.

Vexillology in the film Frailty - 2001

Vexillology made a cameo in the film Frailty 2001, starring Matthew McConaughey and Bill Paxton.  During a flashback scene the starred "WORD OF THE DAY" is "Vexillology."  You can see it in the upper right hand corner.  Although the movie has almost nothing to due with the study of flags, several flags do indeed make an appearance in this biblical thriller of sorts.

In the boys' bedroom a Houston Oilers football pennant hangs above one bed.  The Oilers are an NFL team no more.  When the Oilers moved to Tennessee they underwent a name and mascot change, to become the Tennessee Titans.  You can also see a homemade pennant that the boys made on the post board.

Both lead movie stars are from Texas and exude that "Put-ter there" doing things my way, in that confident Texan Lawman strut.  Bill Paxton was born 1955 in Ft. Worth, Texas while McConaughey was born 1969 in Ulvade, Texas.

The Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company Flag - The White Eagle and Letter N on a Field of Blue

Unfortunate unexpected occurrences hit the fan all the time.  Long ago people took it as sign that you deserved it, were under a curse, or somebody sent you some bad energy.  But accidents happen at a set statistical formula, and a whole industry of Emergency Relief Entities have come into existence to deal with these 'random' events.

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio is one of the these many organized groups who deal with these trying situations.  Of vexillological note, they usually open their commercials by waving their corporate flag.  It has a sky blue background, with a large white capital letter "N."  On top of the "N" is an eagle - a bald eagle completely coloured white.  It is a vexillologically sound flag, that is easily identifiable.

In this commercial Nationwide playfully puts children into poor customer service situations.  You can read into the commercial that Nationwide promotes customer compassion, satisfaction, and service first. In the picture here the US national flag can be seen in the background. Another flag to the left is indistinguishable.

It was in Glory, that Morgan Freeman became a household name.  Freeman rose to stardom late in life.  Consequently his star has burned steady, smooth, true and bright.  Freeman's real world character and rich experience of life's knowing shined through as Sergeant Major Rawlins.

Muffins National Flag - from the Steven Colbert's Lost Twilight Zone Episodes

A unique flag appears on the Steven Colbert Show, the Muffins National Flag.  In a parody sketch in the CBSVault of Television, "lost episodes" of the Twilight Zone a man awakens to new world order where their formerly deceased dog is now the leader of the world.

A picture of the dog with flag can be seen in a photo.  The colour is impossible to make out, but it most likely is red with a white disc with a black paw print.
